Wilmington Orthopaedic Group Wins The Social Media Race

Wilmortho2Go.com nearly doubled participation in the Wilmington Orthopaedic Group Azalea 5K in 2009. The microsite, a community resource supported by a social media campaign, raises awareness of Wilmington Orthopaedic Group and its support of athletic events in the community.

  • Campaign goals included:
    • Boost registration in the Azalea 5K to more than 300.
    • Raise awareness of athletic events supported throughout the year
    • Act as a resource for athletes looking for fitness tips, etc.
  • www.WilmOrtho2Go.com is an online gathering place to secure race information and share experiences with like-minded fitness enthusiasts.
  • Facebook, Twitter and Flickr pages were created and linked to the site to generate buzz and drive traffic.
  • Pitched practice's Walk to Run 5K training program to area media months before race
  • WilmOrtho2Go.com was launched and publicized via:
    • Facebook cause page
    • Tweets on Twitter from client and Talk
    • Press release and media advisory to area media
    • Reminder emails to all Facebook friends
    • Photos and race results were posted on WilmOrtho2Go.com and Flickr
  • Star News series followed progress of training program
  • 31 confirmed guests on Facebook and numerous wall posts.
  • WilmOrtho2Go garnered 277 visits with nearly double the pageviews during the length of the campaign. Visitors to the site were spending an average of two minutes on the site and viewing 1.8 pages per visit.
